Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the first batch of national first-class undergraduate course recognition results. Three courses in our college were selected. "Hydraulic Structure" by Professor Gu Chongshi and "Walking into Water Conservancy" by Professor Hu Ming were selected as the first-class online courses (the former National Excellent Online Open Courses). The "Hydraulic Structure" led by Professor Liu Xiaoqing was selected as a first-class online-and-offline-hybrid course.

Course "Hydraulic Structure" is the main professional course for water conservancy and hydropower engineering, one of the earliest classic courses offered after the establishment of our school. The course systematically teaches about the working load, working principle, working characteristics, applicable conditions, designing and analyzing theory and methods of gravity dams, arch dams, earth-rock dams, sluices, hydraulic tunnels, riverside spillways and other hydraulic structures, which is highly professional and practical.

Course "Walking into Water Conservancy" is a publicly selected course of Hohai University. It introduces the scope and connotation of water conservancy and water conservancy education with rich examples and brilliant pictures and texts, describes the development history and outstanding achievements of water conservancy, and explains the work contents and responsibilities water conservancy workers ought to shoulder, showing the severe challenges and broad prospects which water conservancy is facing.

The college has always attached importance to the construction of courses and the teaching and support of the teacher's group. For example, in the construction of the "Hydraulic Structure" course, the older generations such as Gu Zhaoxun, Zuo Dongqi, Wang Shixia, Xia Songyou, Lin Yicai, and Wu Zhongru have selflessly contributed themselves and cultivated a large number of outstanding successors, leading to outstanding construction results. This course was selected into the National Excellent Course in 2008 when it was led by Professor Ren Xuhua; selected as the National Excellent Resource Sharing Course in 2013 and the National Excellent Online Open Course in 2018 when the course leader was Professor Gu Chongshi. "Hydraulic Structure" has realized the sharing of course resources on the MOOC platform of Chinese universities, implemented online-and-offline-mixed teaching, and made important contributions to the cultivation of professional and technical talents in water conservancy and hydropower engineering. At present, the course team mainly composed of Professor Liu Xiaoqing and others is responsible for the construction of the course, website and teaching materials.

  Facing the new situation, new goals and new requirements of undergraduate education in the new era, our college has continuously promoted the reform of undergraduate education and teaching, consolidated the professional foundation of students, attached importance to the quality of practical teaching, and strengthened teacher teaching incentives around the overall requirements and specific goals of first-class undergraduate construction. Up to now, three courses of our college are selected as national first-class courses, two are selected as national quality online open courses, one is selected as national quality video open courses, two are selected as national quality courses, four are selected as online open courses in Jiangsu Province, three are awarded as the Excellent Courses of Higher Education in Jiangsu Province, one is awarded as Excellent Multimedia Teaching Courseware of Higher Education in Jiangsu Province, and seven textbooks are awarded as Jiangsu Key Textbooks.
