On December 4 and 5, 2020, the 5th Jiangsu Water Creative Design Competition for College Students was held at Hohai University. This competition is co-sponsored by Jiangsu Intellectual Property Research and Protection Association, Intellectual Property Research Association of Jiangsu colleges and Universities, Jiangsu Higher Education Society, Jiangsu Hydropower Engineering Society, and undertaken by Hohai University. Our college is the specific organizer.
Professor Zhu Yuelong, Chairman of Jiangsu Hydropower Engineering Society and former Vice President of Hohai University, Wang Yali, Secretary General of Jiangsu Intellectual Property Research and Protection Association, Gu Shengping, Secretary General of Jiangsu Hydropower Engineering Society, Sun Chuanliang, Yuan Zhengying, Deputy Secretary-Generals of Intellectual Property Research Association of Jiangsu colleges and Universities, and Professor Ren Xuhua, Secretary of the Party Committee of College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering，Hohai University, attended the opening ceremony. The conference was presided over by Professor Wang Jian, deputy dean in College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering.
Chairman Zhu Yuelong delivered a speech on behalf of the organizer, pointing out that this competition was held to actively respond to the call of the provincial party committee and the provincial government to "build an innovative province", promote the implementation of Jiangsu Province’s intellectual property strategy, raise the awareness of invention and innovation of college students, and cultivate various types of innovation Talent, promote water culture. At the same time, he also introduced Hohai University’s century-old history, excellent school-running traditions, profound cultural heritage and unique humanistic spirit. He pointed out that the school is closely combining with the national strategic needs, taking root in China to run universities, conforming to the transform from traditional water conservancy to modern water conservancy, exploring the expansion from water conservancy to water, promoting the extension from river to sea, and accelerating the progress from domestic to international.
Secretary Ren Xuhua, on behalf of all teachers and students in College of Water Conservancy and Hydropower Engineering, expressed warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to participating leaders, guests and students. He introduced the discipline construction, faculty, and talent training of the college, and encouraged young students to stir up their thinking, whimsical ideas, boldly put forward their own opinions, and apply the research results to water conservancy construction business in future.
In this competition, 38 groups of entries from 10 colleges and universities in the province, including Hohai University, Nanjing Tech University, Nanjing University of Information Technology, Nanjing Agricultural University, China University of Mining and Technology and so on, were exhibited wonderfully. The competition was divided into water ecological creativity group, water culture group and water charm group to organize a defense, setting the first prize, second prize, third prize and encouragement prize. Through stimulating competition, a total of 3 works of our college won the second prize.
President Shi Wei of Jiangsu Intellectual Property Research and Protection Association attended the closing ceremony and presented awards to the winners. Secretary Ren also delivered a speech at the closing ceremony.
The Jiangsu Water Creative Design Competition for College Students is a provincial-level competition for scientific and technological innovation recognized by the Academic Affairs Office of Hohai University in 2015. It is held every two years and is one of the three major undergraduate discipline competitions organized by our college (the other two are the national college student water conservancy Innovative Design Competition, Jiangsu University Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition). In recent years, our college has repeatedly achieved great results and won a series of national, provincial and ministerial awards in the National College Student Water Conservancy Innovation Design Competition, the National College Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, the National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, the National College Student Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction Social Practice and Technology Competition, the National College Student Advanced Drawing Technology and Product Information Modeling Competition, Jiangsu University Student Mechanical Innovation Design Competition, Jiangsu University Student Water Creative Design Competition and so on, as well as other comprehensive competitions, such as the National College Student English Competition, Jiangsu Advanced Mathematics Competition, Jiangsu Translation Competition, Jiangsu University Student Art Exhibition, and American University Students Mathematical Modeling Competition and other national, provincial and ministerial competitions. The atmosphere for teachers and students to participate in subject competitions has been significantly improved, which has injected vitality into the construction of our first-class undergraduate.
